During this three-day course, gain an in-depth understanding of the role and responsibilities of a Release Train Engineer (RTE) in the SAFe enterprise. Through experiential learning, examine the RTE role in a Lean- Agile transformation. Learn how to facilitate ART processes and execution, coach leaders, teams, and Scrum Masters in new processes and mindsets. Explore how to prepare, plan, and execute a Program Increment (PI) planning event, the primary enabler of alignment throughout all levels of a SAFe organization.

Prerequisites
The following prerequisites are highly recommended for those who intend to take the SAFe Release Train Engineer (RTE) certification exam:

  • Hold at least one current SAFe certification
  • Have launched or participated in at least one ART and one PI

Annual Renewal
Certificates expire one year from the date the certification is earned.

  • Renewal fee is $295
  • Renewal fee for the RTE certification is included in SPC renewal (if your SPC certification is up-to-date)

  • Exam name: SAFe Release Train Engineer Exam
  • Exam format: Multiple choice; Multiple select
  • Exam delivery: Web-based (single-browser), closed book, no outside assistance, timed
  • Exam access: Candidates can access the exam within the SAFe Community Platform upon completion of the course
  • Exam cost: First exam attempt is included as part of the course registration fee if the exam is taken within 30 days of course completion. Each retake attempt costs $50.
  • Exam Duration: Once the exam begins, candidates have 120 minutes (2 hours) to complete the exam
  • Number of Questions: 60
  • Passing Score: 44 out of 60 (73%) for RTE 5 exam
    Note: 40 out of 60 (67%) for RTE 4.5 exam
  • Language: English
  • Retake policy: Second attempt on exam (first retake) can be done immediately after first attempt. Third attempt requires a 10-day wait. Fourth attempt requires a 30-day wait.
Professional Development Units (PDUs) and Scrum Education Units (SEUs)
Attendees may be eligible to apply for 20 PDUs toward their continuing education requirements with the Project Management Institute (PMI) for PMP, PgMP, and PMI-ACP certifications.
Attendees may be eligible to apply for SEUs under category C, toward earning or renewing their CSP through
Scrum Alliance.

A Certified SAFe® Release Train Engineer (RTE) is a SAFe® program servant leader and coaching professional who is responsible for driving end-to-end delivery of value either in a single program or Value Stream in a Lean-Agile enterprise. The RTEs possess strong communication and negotiation skills along with a desire to learn servant leadership.

There are no prerequisites to attend the SAFe® DevOps training. But, the below are highly recommended:

  • Launch or participate in at least one ART and one Program Increment
  • Hold atleast one SAFe® certification

Getting a SAFe® Release Train Engineer certification from Scaled Agile can provide you with many benefits such as:

You can take up the first attempt of the exam anytime after completing the SAFe® Release Train Engineer training. The second attempt can be taken immediately after the first attempt. Third attempt can be taken after waiting for 10 days and the fourth attempt requires a 30-day wait.
The SAFe® Release Train Engineer comprises of 45 out of 60 multiple choice questions (75% passing marks) which needs to be completed in a duration of 2 hours after the commencement of the exam. It is a web-based close book exam.
The first attempt of the SAFe® Release Train Engineer certification exam is included as part of the course registration fee if the exam is taken within 30 days of training completion. Each retake for the exam costs $50.
In order to attain SAFe® Release Train Engineer certification, candidates are required to attend the 3-day SAFe® Release Train Engineer comprehensive training. They must successfully pass an online exam at the end of the course by scoring a minimum 75%. After clearing the assessment, candidates will get the certification from the Scaled Agile (SAFe® certifying body).
SAFe® Release Train Engineer certification is valid for one year and includes membership in the SAFe® Community Platform.
SAFe® Release Train Engineer certification needs to be renewed every year. To renew the certification, you need to login to the Scaled Agile Community portal and pay the annual cost of renewal which is $295. The renewal fee for the RTE certification is included in SPC(SAFe® Program Consultant) renewal.
